About Sawcom Industries: Building, Welding and Engineering Services

Sawcom Industries is a building, welding and engineering business based in Cairns. Established by best mates Steve and Will, having two arms to the business – building/construction and fabrication/engineering – allows them to provide a comprehensive service that other Cairns builders aren’t able to provide. We are able to take care of all of our own fabrication requirements in-house leaving us with no margin for error because our own team are responsible for creating all of our building posts, components etc.

Our workshop is based in Cairns and our service area includes a 200km radius around Cairns, encompassing Port Douglas, Gordonvale, Mareeba, Innisfail and other surrounding areas. We employ a team of 7 including qualified boilermakers, carpenters and one apprentice.

Our full range of services is comprehensive and encompasses building and construction, welding, fabrication and engineering for a range of industries in the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors. For more information regarding our full range of services and capabilities, check out our projects gallery or get in touch with us to discuss your next project.

About Steve: Boilermaking, Welding and Engineering

Steve started his boilermaking apprenticeship in Tasmania when he was 15 years old. Working on mining and marine projects, recycling factories, paper mills as well as onsite welding and workshop fabrication, Steve was able to gain experience in a wide variety of industries.

Following his apprenticeship, Steve relocated to Darwin where he worked for a hydraulic company as their manufacturing manager, running their welding division before moving to a local gas plant where he was employed as a specialist welder. Working at the gas plant he gained extensive experience working with pressure vessels and other specialise welding applications that have high accuracy requirements and unique specifications.

About Will: Carpentry, Building, Renovations and Extensions

Will also started his apprenticeship at the age of 15. Moving from Cairns to Sydney to Darwin and back to Cairns, he gained experience in a number of positions including leading hand, quotation officer and foreman. He has also spent some time working around the bush in Kununurra, Arukun, Weipa and Palm Island, which has rounded out his experience and contributed to his innovative design skills.
